The demi-lune top banded in satinwood inlaid with scrolls, centred by a palm-wrapped ellipse enclosing Ceres holding her Cornucopia of Plenty, above a foliate-inlaid frieze centred by a portrait medallion of a woman's head, on fluted tapering legs headed by paterae, on tapering feet

Embellished in the elegant George III 'antique' manner introduced in the late 1760s, the elliptic and 'arabesque' inlaid table is carved and gilded with a pearl-and-palm wrapped frame and columnar legs capped by Apollonian Palmyra sunflower tablets. Its palm-wreathed 'Roman' medallion of the Summer and harvest deity Ceres, emblematic of Peace and Plenty, is accompanied by flowered libation paterae and a portrait medallion in the frieze .

A related figurative medallion appears on a pair of pier tables sold anonymously in these Rooms, 18 May 1961, lot 36. Other related medallions appear on a commode that has been attributed to the Golden Square firm of Messrs. Mayhew and Ince (L. Wood, Catalogue of Commodes, London, 1994, no. 27).
