An English carved oak longcase clock
The case carved overall with foliate designs and flowerheads, the hood with stepped top and outset front columns, short breakarch trunk door, on long stepped plinth, the 12in. wide silvered and engraved dial with later gilt cherub mask spandrels to the Roman and Arabic chapter ring, subsidiary seconds ring (lacking hand) to the centre, signed John Jackson/LONDON above the date aperture, blued steel hands, strike/silent ring in the arch, the five pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; associated, case probably 19th century, movement and dial circa 1780 -- 89½in. (227cm.) high
