COMPARATIVE LITERATURE: Pierre Kjellberg, La Pendule Francaise, Les Éditions de l'amateur, Paris, 1997, p.398, fig.B; Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Klinkhardt and Biermann, Munich, p.374, fig.5.15.4.
'La Liseuse' is after a model by the bronzier Jean-André Reiche. The example in Kjellberg has dog standing by the chair rather than a stack of books and a different gallery mount. An almost identical model to the present example (with different feet) was sold Christie's South Kensington house sale Le Bois Muralt, 18 and 19 January 2000, lot 1006.
