The case with gilt-brass handle to stepped inverted bell top and with gilt-brass spire finials to the corners, glazed side panels, the front door with gilt-brass scroll quarter frets and flanked by moulded canted angles, with stepped base raised on bun feet to the front and blocks to the rear, the gilt-brass dial with foliate scroll spandrels to an arcaded Roman and Arabic chapter ring, florally engraved centre with mock pendulum aperture and signed JohSef FederSpihl Stad/Uhrmacher in AugSburg, with subsidiary ring above for Schlagt/Nit Schlagt, the four pillar movement with rectangular plates and triple barrels, verge escapement with strike and trip repeat on two gongs -- 17¾in.
