A MASSIVE WELL-CARVED LONGQUAN CELADON CHARGER
Ming dynasty, early 15th century
Stoutly potted with shallow curved sides, the interior well carved with a large peony spray below a band of composite foliate scroll and a narrow band of flower sprigs at the rim, the exterior carved with a further band of foliate scroll between triple line borders, all under a rich olive-green glaze continuing over the foot ring onto the base where an unglazed ring has burnt reddish-brown in the firing
