A LAPIS LAZULI FIGURE OF THE BUDDHA ON A WHITE JADE STAND
18th/19th century
The well-carved figure shown seated in dhyanasana with hands held together in dhyanamudra supporting a small covered tripod vessel, wearing a short-sleeved robe tied just below the chest, his face with small features and benign expression, his hair arranged in tight curls above his large, pendulous ears, the stone of rich sapphire-blue tone with attractive patches of brown and white mottling; the fitted jade stand of even white tone and carved with a line of beads between bands of upright and pendent lotus petals; together with a small gilt-decorated celadon jade bowl, Qianlong four-character gilt mark in a square and possibly of the period, vigorously painted with an allover design of writhing five-clawed dragons amidst a dense ground of composite floral scroll
