A similar box of Qianlong date was included in the Hong Kong O.C.S. exhibition, 2000 Years of Chinese Lacquer, Art Gallery, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 24 September-21 November 1993, no. 76. The Qianlong period boxes of this design were copies of Jiajing-marked examples, such as no. 61 in the same exhibition, which were much admired by the Qianlong emperor who then commissioned copies to be made. See, also, the similar box illustrated in Masterpieces of Chinese Carved Lacquer Ware in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1971, pl. 25.
