Each boldly painted in front with a large Valckenier coat-of-arms beneath the shaded purplish falcon crest, the sides with iron-red and gilt sprays of prunus, peony, lily and dianthus clustered with a feather fan, repeated on the covers

Several members of the influential Valckenier family of Amsterdam were senior in the Dutch East India Company and ordered armorial porcelain, the leading example being Adriaan Valckenier, Governor-General of the Indies 1737-41. See C.J.A. Jorg, Chinese Porcelain in the Rijksmuseum, p. 303. Another jug was sold Sotheby's Monaco, 23 June 1986, lot 1193
