Monogrammed 'J.T.' lower right, written in pencil on reverse is the inscription Miniature on Ivory of Gen. George Washington after the Battle of New Jersey (much admired) J.T."

Another affixed label reads New York, January 25, 1897
I certify that a large miniature portrait on ivory of General George Washington in the hands of Messrs. Wunderlich & Co, was painted by Col. John Trumbull, the Revolutionary artist, that the signature J.T. on the ______ is authentic, and the endorse(ment) on the _____ of the frame is Trumbull's ______ writing
