A KWAKIUTL POLYCHROME WOOD FRONTLET
carved in high relief with red, black and blue pigments, depicting two crest figures, the first, possibly a land creature, with round eyes inlaid with abalone shell and broad mouth with slightly parted lips, the underside of its jaw painted with formline design, crosshatched details, surmounted by a hawk with similar eyes set below arching brows, with slightly parted recurved beak clasping a circular disk, rectangular and triangular abalone shell plaques inset around the figures, with side perforations for attachment
