With rounded sides and broad everted rim, painted at the centre with a scene of equestrian warriors flanked by standard bearers, below radiating petal-shaped panels with similar figures reserved on chevron and fretwork grounds, the reverse with panels of ruyi motifs and flowering branches, rim frits

The scene is from part three of The Romance of the Western Chamber, where General Du is in combat with Sun while he attacks the Temple of Pujiu.

A similar dish was exhibited in Eastern Ceramics and other Works of Art from the Collection of Gerald Reitlinger, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1981, catalogue no. 101.
