A study for the oil painting, Parson's Pleasure (Private Collection). Named after Bishop Parsons (d. 1819), Parson's Pleasure, on the river Cherwell, Oxford, was a place where men usually bathed naked. The Cherwell flows through Marston where the Roberts spent most of the Second World War years. The final version in oil was sold Sotheby's, London, 2 October 1996, lot 43.
