It is possible that the separately made foot was carved from the inside of the hollowed vessel, so as to make optimum use of the flawless white material.

The Xingyouheng Tang belonged to the fifth Prince Ding, Zaichuan, who was the great-great-grandson of the Qianlong Emperor, and who inherited the princedom upon the death of his father in 1836. A keen collector of paintings and works of art, Zaichuan had many of his pieces inscribed with this hallmark.
