A very similar tobacco-box by Philippus Jacobus Kops, Middelburg, 1755, is recorded in J.W. Frederiks, Dutch Silver, vol. III, The Hague, 1960, p. 10, no. 24, plate 18. The maker's mark on the present box appears to be overstruck by a second town mark and may possibly be that of Kops.
