Attributed to Jacques II Laudin (1663-1729), late 17th Century
The interior of the bowl decorated with a polychrome image of St. Gulielmus in the centre, surrounded by putti and rural scenes painted en grisaille; the centre inscribed 'St. Guilielmus' and signed with the initials '.I.L.'; the underside with a polychrome rural scene surrounded by foliate scrollwork en grisaille.
Chips and cracks to enamel; minor repairs.

As Caroselli points out in her catalogue of the enamels in Los Angeles (S. Caroselli, The Painted Enamels of Limoges - A catalogue of the Collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, 1993, pp. 199-203), it is difficult to distinguish between the various members of the prolific Laudin dynasty of enamellers. However, most of the polychrome enamels signed 'I.L.', as with the present lot, are now thought to be the work of Jacques II Laudin, as opposed to his uncle, Jacques I.
