LS: The oriental plague, also known as bubonic plague, causes boils on the skin (carbuncles) and ulcerous inflammations, festering, congestion and destruction of the lymph glands in the groin, in the armpits, and, more rarely, behind the ears. The disease is highly contagious, has an epidemic character, and normally an incubation period of 2-5 days. After this period occur glandular swellings up to the size of a dove's egg, and after 3-6 days the patient dies, displaying symptoms of sepsis.
