Attributed to James Shoolbred & Co.
Each with a pierced baluster toprail above a solid rectangular seat, flanked on each side by a roundel issuing square tapering cabriole legs joined by stretchers, each with registration mark on the reverse for 13 December 1883

James Shoolbred and Co. of Tottenham Court Road, became one of the first large department stores in London. They expanded from a small draper business and started to manufacture high quality furniture circa 1870, for which they were given a Royal warrant by the mid-1880s.
Another pair of Shoolbred stools, with maker's stamp and registration mark, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 15 April 1999, lot 43.
