TIENTSIN "China" OVERPRINT QQThe Germania stamps without overprint were sent to the Fieldpost Service of the East Asia Expeditionary Corps throughout China, including a stock to Tientsin. However, these stamps could be bought on the black market at 25 under face value. To guard against these stamps being sent back to Germany at a profit, the postmaster at Tientsin ordered his stock to be overprinted with the word "China" before being sold over the counter. QQThe handstamp was made locally out of the hard Chinese sumac wood, using the ink pads which were employed to cancel the mail. QQThe 50pf. was issued on 24th November 1900, followed by the 40pf. on 7th December 1900. Other values wew released in early January 1901. Stamps dated "1/1 00" are believed to have been cancelled by favour. The postal validity of these stamps ended on 31st December 1902
