Ernest Prater is recorded as a black and white artist and illustrator working at London and Westcliffe-on-Sea. He was on the staff of the Black and White, The Sphere and The Graphic, acting as Special Artist for the Black & White in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and also contributed to the The Boys' Own Paper.
