A milestone in the study of glaciers, studying the development, formation, movement and effect of glaciers. Agassiz believed there to have been a great fall in the world's temperature causing a great ice sheet across much of Northern Europe and he named this period the "Ice Age". His work had a great influence on Lyell and Darwin.
