Jean-Baptiste Hüet studied with Charles Dagomer before entering the studio of Jean-Baptiste Leprince. He exhibited regularly at the Salon du Louvre from 1769 to 1802 and was employed designing tapestry cartoons for the Manufactories at Aubusson, Beauvais, Gobelins and Joüy. Hüet worked in the style of François Boucher and Jean-Baptiste Oudry, though he brought his own recognizable manner to his many pastoral compositions.

These pastoral scenes may have been executed by Hüet as cartoons for tapestries and most probably were part of a larger series representing Les jeux champêtres manufactured at Aubusson.
