SIR EDWIN HENRY LANDSEER (1802-73)
A 3pp. a.l.s. by Landseer, dated Balmoral Castle, 10th June 1869, to Mr. Forster, apologising for the delay in replying to a letter and putting it down to his poor health: "I find life at Court even in the Highlands anything but going to grass ... for the first time the Highland breeze refused to pick me up ... Our Gracious Queen kindly commands me to get well here, which accounts for my lengthened stay at Balmoral ... I have been too unwell to indulge in my old amusements such as Trout & Salmon fishing -- Driving about with the Ladies has been my Sport today." He finishes the letter with a pen and ink drawing of a Highland Terrier, begging on a table.
