The Norwegian screw steamer Alfred Dumois was built for Jacob Christensen of Bergen by Blackwood & Gordon of Port Glasgow in 1890. Steel-hulled and registered at 737 tons, she measured 175 feet in length and had a 28 foot beam. Operated by Christensen's for most of her life, she was sold to new owners early in 1916 and renamed Graafjeld. Resold again the same year, she was torpedoed and sunk off Flamborough Head on 15 January 1917 whilst en route from Alesund to Hull with a cargo of herring.
