An unusual planked and framed model of a Roman warship of circa 50 BC built by J. Robinson - 19 x 38ins (48.2 x 96.5cms)
With main and mizen masts, rigging and stitched linen sails and deck details including anchor, deck-rails, companionways, ballista, gratings, centre castle with ballista and spears, boarding bridge, poop and stern castle, the planked hull is fitted with a single row of 14 oars aside, bow rostrum, animal heads stern decoration and much carved and painted decoration. Stand and glazed case.
