A satinwood and marquetry bonheur du jour, crossbanded overall in tulipwood, the arched superstucture with central open compartment backed with simulated drapery, flanked by pair of glazed compartments and pilasters, the writing surface with central inlaid oval of maiden and putto, within guilloche border above frieze simulated as two drawers enclosing pen trays and a drawer above a pair of drawers each inlaid with classical oval and bell flower swags, enclosing fitted interior flanked by reeded uprights with stiff leaf headings on turned feet, late 19th century, feet replaced, possibly incorporating some 18th century elements, with label stamped ... Ealey - Shermanbury - Horsesham and inscribed in ink Given to my niece - Margaret Agnes Lacey - Dec. 21st. 1949 and in another hand by Agnes Caroline Innes - A.C. Innes 21.12.49 - 28¾in.
