A rare collection of original scripts and related material including a set of preparation sheets for Erich Von Stroheim's first film, Blind Husbands inscribed on the cover in Von Stroheim's hand, Preparation - sheets for 'Blind Husbands' - sets, wardrobe, props, vehicles, lifestock (sic) etc. signed Erich V.Stroheim - the contents giving a rare insight into Von Stroheim's reputation for attention to detail, mimeographed typescript - a few pages annotated in Von Stroheim's hand, 74pp. (disbound), with four pages of hand-written notes in Valerie Von Stroheim's hand giving the background history to the making of the film Blind Husbands, recounting that her husband ...Received no pay for directing but was paid $250 per week for playing the staring (sic) part. Because the picture was such a huge success Mr Laemmle gave Erich a bonus of $2500..Not long after that Erich got a call from William Randolph Hearst offering him a job for $2500 a week..he refused the offer - having given Mr Laemmle his word to stay with him... 4pp; and an original shooting script for Merry Go Round, Erich Von Stroheim, Goldwyn Studios, Culver City, California, [circa 1937], camera and action directions in mimeographed typescript, 274 pp., signed Erich von Stroheim on original paper cover and inscribed in two different hands Von shooting script, known as Script 2 and Depts. exhibit H - in evidence James W. Maarl, Commission; another original script 'POTO-POTO' An Original Story of the African Swamps by Erich Von Stroheim, mimeographed typescript annotated in Von Stroheim's hand, 209pp. bound into a loose-leaf holder; and another original script Blind Love - Original Story by Erich Von Stroheim, April 1st, 1935, mimeographed typescript, 163pp. bound with brass clips; and two scenarios for film scripts, one entitled Broken Oaths the other The Crucible, both typescript, with corresponding affidavits of authorship issued by the state of California, dated November 20th, 1922 and May 13th, 1925 respectively.(a lot)
