The Empress Elisabeth, wife of the Emperor Franz Josef, was considered one of the finest horsewomen of her day. She was assassinated in Geneva by an Italian anarchist, Luigi Luccheni, in 1898.
Christopher Payne in his book Animals in Bronze, published by The Antique Collectors' Club, says of the artist, "A gifted and competent sculptor about whom little is known. His two recorded equestrian groups are both on the theme of horse racing with plenty of movement and, interestingly, with a similarity of style and excellent finish used by another aristocratic animalier, Le Comte du Passage."
The example illustrated in Christopher Payne's book is an equestrian group of Czar Nicholas II of Russia.
