A LOUIS XVI STYLE ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY VITRINE-ON-STAND

With an eared rectangular moulded Siena marble top above an ormolu- moulded frieze applied into foliate scrolls over a case fitted with bevelled glass panels fitted into a door fluted by foliate cast disengaged colonnettes headed by crisply cast female caryatids representative of the fine arts and music above a spring activated drawer applied with foliate scrolling masks with satrys and birds on tapering octagonal fluted supports backed by a panel with an incurved rectangular ormolu-moulded Sienna marble undertier, on toupie feet with ormolu cuffs indistinctly stamped 'HENRY DASSON 1892' and inscribed henry Dasson et Cie 1892--65in. By repute the portrait medallion on the righthand disengaged colonnette is that of Dasson himself. However, the bust better resembles that of Napoleon III who was a great patron of the decorative arts and was responsible for allowing Dasson to copy the "bureau du roi".
