The rectangular plinth-supported and well-topped work-table (table-vide-poches) of golden marble-figured elm is designed in the robust Napoleonic Empire manner, with its Doric-columned supports enriched with palms and Grecian-fretted ribbons. It bears the brand adopted in 1803 by François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter (d.1841) of the rue Meslée, following Napoleon's elevation as Emperor. A related drawer-fitted table was supplied by Jacob for the Grand Trianon's salon des jeux. Plinth-supported Doric columns enriched with palms also featured on the console-table, which he supplied for its Salon des Princes (see: D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Francais du XIX Siècle, Paris, 1989, pp. 329 and 275)
