A ROMAN GOLD AND AMETHYST CENTREPIECE FROM A NECKLACE, the amethyst in an oval pierced setting, with pierced work border with two attachment tubes at back, 1¼in. (3cm.) long; twenty-six sheet gold box leaf-shaped settings arranged in pairs, also with piercings for attachment to a two-strand necklace, though possibly not belonging to the amethyst originally, twelve inset with a green glass lentoid-shaped 'leaf' (the others missing), ¾in. (1.8cm.) long av., divided by fourteen pairs of small sheet gold leaves; and another sheet gold ornament with four circular box settings, now containing one emerald and one sapphire, attached to a velvet backing, 2nd-3rd Century A.D.
