Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1947
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A). Château-bottled
In new original wooden cases
A mere handful of bottles of this famed wine have appeared at auction in recent years. For such a quantity in prime condition to appear in one cellar is unique. Recorked at the Château, relabelled and topped up with the same wine. Only one and a half bottles were needed to do this for the eighty-eight bottles included in this sale. At an average of 1.25 centilitres per bottle, this is a tribute to both the original corks and conditions under which the wine has been stored
Still impressively deep, lively and intense; bouquet subdued at first but developed fabulously; on the sweet side, mouthfilling, with lovely crisp flavour and silky tannins. Perfection. Several recent notes, all with top marks. Last tasted October 1993
