After several false starts Lear succeeded in making a two month trip to Mount Athos in 1856. He wset off with his manservant Giorgio on 7 April via Filiates and Salonika, returning back home to Corfu on 7 October. The second drawing, numbered '34' was presumably done immediately prededing the other
