Louis Auguste Moreau (1855-1919) studied partly under his father Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) then under Aimé Millet, A. Dumont and J. Thomas. He exhibited at the Salon of 1877 winning a third class medal and won a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900. Decorated vases of a similar shape and style by Auguste Moreau are documented, as are florally decorated vases with putti by Hippolyte Francois Moreau (1832-1927), the second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau.
