Saint Philip, also known as Saint Philip the Evangelist and Saint Philip the Deacon, was one of the seven deacons chosen by the Twelve Apostles. He evangelized Samaria and later converted the eunuch of Queen Candace of Ethiopia (Acts VI.5; VIII.25-40; XXI.8-10), as depicted in the present composition.
