This cabinet, with its geometric chequered inlay and columnar feet of rich foliage with cherubim-heads in the antique manner, typfies the exotic furniture manufactured for Portuguese traders at Indian and Goanese ports in the 17th Century

Similar cabinet-on-stands with identical drawer arrangements and very similar inlay were sold in these Rooms, 18 June 1976, lot 195, 27 March 1986, lot 109, 8 December 1988, lot 141, 29 Novemver 1990, lot 265 and 6 June 1991, lot 298. Another similar, the property of the late Major Eustace Robb, Great Tew Park, Oxfordshire, was sold in Christie's House Sale 27 May 1987, lot 88. See S. Jervis, Furniture at Arundel Castle, The Connoisseur, March 1978, for another example.
