A CHELSEA GROUP OF PEASANT DANCERS standing to either side of a flower-encrusted tree-stump with their right arms linked, he with a flower in his hat and wearing puce-lined turquoise jacket, white blouse and black breeches, his companion with drapery falling from her hair, a posy tucked into her white bodice painted with iron-red flowers and applied with blue bows, holding out the edge of her white apron and wearing a puce skirt, the edges of their clothes enriched in gilding (restoration to fingers of both his hands and garter, chip to base and to flowers and foliage), red anchor mark, circa 1756
