This tricoteuse is based on a group by or attributed to Jean-Henri Riesener (maitre in 1768) and Martin Carlin (maitre in 1766) including that made by Riesener for Marie-Antionette at St.Cloud, now in the Musée Nissim de Camondo, Paris (Catalogue, 1973, p.73, no.347). Another was sold from the collection of Mr. and Mrs John Balfour, Balbirnie, Fife, Scotland, in these Rooms, 29 June 1972, lot 4.
