The rectilinear form and fluted frame of this chair are probably inspired by the work of John Linnell in the early 1770's. The overall form relates to chair in the Victoria and Albert Museum that is confidently attributed to him and which itself relates to a drawing in the same museum (E.78-1929, see: H.Hayward and P.Kirkham, William and John Linnell, London, 1980, vol.II, pp.43-44, figs.83-85))
