Tamerlan was a Mongolian ruler (1336-1405) who conquered lands in present day Iran, Turkey, India and the Russian Caucasus. His name was very probably given to the establishment depicted in Berlin which was presumably run by one of the many Russian emigrés who inhabited the city after the Russian Revolution.
