THE PROPERTY OF THE LATE LORD NEWTON, SOLD BY ORDER OF THE EXECUTORS The following 9 lots were commissioned for the wedding in 1821 of William John Legh Esq., (d.1834) of Brymbo Hall, Co. Denbigh and of Hordle, Co. Hants and Mary Ann (d.1838), eldest daughter and heir of John Wilkinson Esq. of Castlehead. With the exception of the candlesticks (lot 29) and the tea and coffee service (lot 33) each piece is either cast or engraved with the crest or arms of Newton. Their fourth and eldest surviving son William John Legh (1828-1898) suceeded to his fathers's estates in 1834 and to those of his uncle in 1857. He was later created 1st Baron Newton of Newton-in-Makerfield in 1892. With the exception of the table service (lot 28) all were made in the workshop of Edward Farrell.
