Tuke leased a cabin on Customs House Quay from 1903 onwards to watch the comings and goings of vessels in and out of Falmouth Harbour. This view would have been directly in his line of vision from his cabin and it records the familar inhabitants of the Quay including the 'Quay punts', fast sailing boats used mainly for carrying messages to vessels within the inner harbour, and the square-rigged vessel glimpsed in the top left-hand corner, possibly 'The Lady of Avenal', a brigantine which was fitted out as a training ship after the First World War
