Goto Teijo (1603-1687) was the son of Kenjo, the 7th master of the Goto mainline. At the age of 23, he succeeded the Ribei line and changed his name to Mitsumasa. His uncle Kakujo invited him to join the Maeda family in Kaga. The bakufu meanwhile, asked him to work for them both in Edo and Kyoto. In 1636 at the age of 34, he became the 9th mainline master and in 1677, the shogun Ietsuna awarded him a fuchi of 20 craftsmen and conferred the title hokkyo upon him.
