A PAIR OF CHELSEA GROUPS OF GALLANTS AND COMPANIONS EMBLEMATIC OF THE SEASONS, Winter and Spring modelled as a man wearing fur-edged cap and fur-lined iron-red jacket, his companion holding a bouquet of flowers and with flowers in her apron, standing before berried foliage on a grasswork base applied with flowers, Summer and Autumn modelled as a woman holding a sickle, her hat slung from her shoulders, her left arm resting on the shoulder of Autumn modelled as a gentleman, his apron filled with fruit, standing before a tree-stump applied with peaches, the base applied with two partridges, ears of corn and flowers, their clothes painted in colours and gilt, on high pierced scroll-moulded bases enriched with gilding (sickle a restored replacement, chips and restorations to extremities), gold anchor marks, circa 1765
