A label on the reverse of the miniature gives the sitter's identity as the Hon. Mary Pakenham, daughter of Thomas Pakenham, 1st Baron Longford and her birth dates as 1745-1789. Burke's Peerage however give her dates as 1749-1775. Although Lord Longford had two other daughters Frances (1744-1776) and Helena (1745-1777) with the miniature dated 1786, the sitter's identity is open to question.
