This laughingthrush from China was discovered by Père Armand David in western Szechwan. It was similar to the Himalayan Ianthocincla ocellata of the previous illustration, (see Asia, III, pl.44) but had slight differences in plumage. These were the blacker colouring of the head, throat and round the eye, and the broader, yellower body spots, each spot with narrower black bars.
The illustration was made from a specimen lent to Gould by the zoologist, D.G. Elliot.
