Henri-Désiré Gauquié (1858-1927) studied under Pierre Jules Cavelier, and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon in the 1880's and 1890's, as well as at the Exposition Universelle of 1890 and 1900. In recognition, he was awarded a number of medals for his work, and in 1900 he was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
