Newsham Peers, the son of Thomas Peers of Alveston (d.1722), joined the army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 23rd Foot on 25 April 1706. He remained with the same Regiment all his life, becoming a Lieutenant on 24 June 1707, Captain on 24 December 1710, Major on 25 May 1720, Lieut-Colonel on 22 December 1722 and Colonel on 23 November 1739. He served at Malplaquet and was killed at the Battle of Dettingen on 27 June 1743. He married a Miss Hoyt.
