Raised in the Eastern Province of Cape Colony in 1862, and reformed in August 1877, the Stockenstroom Rifles served in the Ninth Kaffir War and at Moirosi's Stronghold on 8.4.1879. The unit was issued with just 42 Medals, 20 of them with the '1879' clasp.
