The sitter is probably Elizabeth, eldest daughter of the Hon. Edward Townshend (d. 1816), Dean of Windsor, and grandaughter of Charles, 2nd Viscount Townshend, the celebrated Whig statesman and Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk. She married the Rev. Walter Wren Drifford, Rector of Eswarton, Suffolk and Southchurch, Essex.
