De Wint exhibited views of Crowland Abbey with the Old Watercolour Society in 1833 and 1835; this study is related to the 1835 work. The Norman Abbey of Crowland, Lincolnshire, was built in 1113, replacing the original foundations of King Aethelbald of 716, twice burnt by the Danes.
